Our AAVE Perinatal Community Health training is designed to educate and certify passionate individuals in 6 leading perinatal focused careers. Upon successful completion of this training, AAVE PCH's will be well versed in birth and postpartum care for the family, health-promotion, lactation management, the birthing process, and mental health regardless of the families they serve.
AAVE PCH training also provides an intro to the Perinatal Community Health Worker role.

How long is the training?
The PCH training is 4 months.
How long is mentorship?
The PCH mentorship is up to 2 months post training. All trainees are automatically enrolled into the mentorship program.
When does the training open?
The PCH training is only available once a year and is currently closed for 2024!
Who is eligible to enroll?
All individuals passionate about maternal and child health are eligible to apply including those on unemployment. Trainees on employment should consult with their career advisor before enrolling into this training.

Birth Doula
A birth doula provides non-medical support to pregnant people and their families before, during and after childbirth.

Postpartum Doula
A postpartum doula gives families physical and emotional support after the birth of your baby.

Peer Lactation Educator
A peer lactation educator is a person from the community who has breastfeeding and/or lactation experience or knowledge.

Childbirth Educator
A childbirth educator provides information on pregnancy anatomy, the sociological and physical process of birth as well as postpartum.

Mental Health First Aider
A mental health first aider identifies, understands and responds to signs of mental disorders on a non-medical level.
